![]() Johannesburg - Wednesday, 10 August 2005:Putting a pro-life spin on the current wristband craze, the youth of the Maronite Catholic Church South Africa are launching Pro-Life wristbands, specifically aimed at raising awareness about abortion and promoting the sanctity of Life. The Pro-Life wristband, designed by the Maronite Youth Committee under the supervision of their spiritual director, Fr. Nadim Abou-Zeid, together with the help of Mitch Ansara and Gecko Media, has been fashioned as a unisex fashion accessory with the catch phrase "chooseLife". The addition of the unique "footprints" is set to spark interest and curiosity. The footprints were specifically designed to replicate the actual size and shape of a pre-born baby's tiny feet just ten weeks after conception, it is intended that this fact will create a strong impact, as most people have no idea how well developed the unborn child is at this stage in his or her new life.
The subject of abortion has always been close to the hearts of the Maronite Youth and only with
the dawning of the "wristband craze" in early 2005, did they feel they had discovered a concept
that would reach youth in a manner that would be "cool and fashionable" but still get the Pro-Life
message across. The Maronite Youth will begin the sales of the wristbands within their own parish, at R15.00 a wristband, but are earnestly hoping larger associations and other parishes will help spread these wristbands nationally and internationally. A 20 minute DVD, "The Miracle of Life" has also been made available for a donation R50.00. This DVD can be used as a tool to help educate others about abortion and portrays the struggles young people face in choosing abortion. The proceeds from the sales of the wristbands and the DVD's will go towards an anti-abortion cause, the youth have a vision of building a home where pregnant women can reside and receive support and counselling during the term of their pregnancy.
